Five Healthy Breakfasts in Under Five Minutes
Although breakfast has been considered the most important meal of the day it often gets snubbed for one main reason......NOT ENOUGH TIME! You have no idea how many times a day I hear this from clients and friends, "We don't have enough time to eat healthy, to exercise, to sleep more, to take care of ourselves". Often times a lack of time becomes an excuse for not making things that are important to your health a big priority. However, everyone has five minutes in the morning.....everyone. Getting up five minutes earlier or even prepping your breakfast the night before can help you start your morning off on the right foot. Here are five easy and healthy breakfast options that take under five minutes to prepare. A few of these are even easy to take on the go!
Ezekiel Toast with Avocado Mash
This is a delicious and quick breakfast option that is a great combination of fiber, good fats and protein. All you do is toast two pieces of ezekiel bread and top it with a half of a mashed avocado and a pinch of sea salt. I also like to put some black sesame seeds and hemp seed on mine for a little extra flavor and nutritional boost.
Smoothies are a healthy and quick meal replacement or snack for anyone who is pressed for time. They are a simple way to get a serving of vegetables in the morning and are easy to pack in a mason jar and enjoy for later or drink on the go! This is one of my many green smoothie recipes:
Blend all ingredients until smooth
1 large orange
2 handfuls of spinach
1/2 cup almond milk
1 handful ice
Sometimes I top mine with a sprinkle of coconut or handful of golgi berries :)
Fruit + Yogurt Parfait
Parfaits are a tasty and portable breakfast option that can also be made the night before. Simply layer the following into a mason jar in any order you choose; plain greek yogurt, berries, honey, bananas and then top with nuts or granola for some crunch! This option is loaded with protein, good fats and plenty of vitamins and minerals to get you moving in the morning.
Chia Seed Pudding
Chia seed pudding is another delicious and portable breakfast option that can be made the night before and kept in a mason jar. It's packed with anti-inflammatory omega 3's as well as being a great source of fiber. You can find my recipe here.
Toad in a Hole
Toad in a hole, aka egg in a hole is simply an egg cooked in the center of a piece of bread on your stove top. All you have to do is butter your ezekiel bread and cut a hole in the center, crack the egg in the hole and cook to your liking.
Season it with a little salt and pepper and it's your eggs + toast in under 5 minutes!
